Traditional metal braces are not the only option teens have for correcting dental problems.
Clear and ceramic braces that are the same color as teeth are available.
Invisalign has become a popular choice for teens who don't want to look like they are wearing braces at all. Instead of metal or ceramic brackets, Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners, something like mouth guards, to move teeth.
Many teens are not bothered by any stigma about wearing braces, but instead view them as a fashion statement. Teen braces now come in just about every color under the sun. Neon braces that glow in the dark are even available, and teens often have a choice about what kind of braces they will get.
After braces are removed, many teens will need to wear a retainer for a few years or more until the teeth and jaws have completely adjusted to their new positions. After a couple of years of wearing braces, this should be a piece of cake, but do not overlook it. There's no sense wasting all of that treatment and having to do some of it over again!
